Your Septic System is designed to last many years, IF you maintain it properly. It is made to hold and break down human waste so that it allows only liquids to enter the leach field or leaching area.
If you do not pump and clean the Septic Tank or Cesspool periodically, the accumulated solids will overflow from the Septic Tank or Cesspool and clog the leach field or leaching area causing major damage. This will cause the whole system to malfunction resulting in backups and/or overflowing.
If that happens, there is no permanent remedy except replacing your leach field or leaching area at a great cost. There are various gimmicks to reclaim a failed system; however, prior results have shown these methods to be only temporary fixes.
If you are confused because someone who was misinformed told you to only pump the tank when you have a problem, consider this:
It is foolish to wait until your toilet won't flush or septage is overflowing on the ground to have your Septic Tank or Cesspool cleaned. Not only do you risk ruining your whole leaching system, but chances are it will happen on a Sunday, Holiday or nighttime when the State Facility Disposal Station is closed preventing a Septic Cleaner to provide immediate service.
Remember, once the leach field or leaching area is clogged with solids, pumping the Septic Tank or Cesspool will not unclog the system or correct the damage.
Regular cleaning of the Septic Tank and Cesspool only prevents this from happening. Preventive maintenance can help eliminate minor or major Septic Tank or Cesspool problems. For your convenience, we offer mail and phone reminders as well as automatic maintenance programs.
We recommend that your Septic Tank or Cesspool should be pumped and cleaned as follows for normal use. Please note that these are estimates based on past experience.
Family of 2: 1 - 2 yrs. *

Family of 4: Yearly*

Family of 6: Twice a yr.*
* Garbage disposal and/or heavy use will require cleaning more frequently.
